A lithophane is a photo made in 3D. Instead of ink, we 3D print your picture into a thin white panel: thicker where the photo is dark, thinner where it's light. In a normal room it's a white, textured relief. Stand it in a sunny window or in front of a lamp, and the light shining through brings out your photo in soft, detailed shades.

    A real person checks every photo before anything is printed. If another photo would give you a better result, we'll let you know.

    We prepare it for printing

    We crop and fine-tune your photo, then turn it into a 3D model: thicker where the photo is dark, thinner where it's light.

    Your lithophane is printed layer by layer in fine white PLA, just for your order.

    Every print is held up to the light and checked before it's packed and handed to the courier.

Does it come with a light?

No – a lithophane uses the light you already have. Stand it on a sunny windowsill, in front of a lamp or behind a small LED light, and your photo appears.

What does it look like without light behind it?

In a normal room it looks like a white, textured relief – you can still see the shapes and faces. The full, detailed photo appears when light shines through it from behind.

Which photos work best?

Bright, sharp photos with clear faces and good contrast. Close-ups and portraits look the most striking. If you can, send the original photo from your phone rather than a screenshot or a photo saved from WhatsApp, as those are lower quality.

Can I order different photos?

Yes. Choose how many lithophanes you want and a photo box appears for each one. Buy 2, get 1 free – the discount is applied automatically at checkout.

How long does it take?

We print and dispatch within 1–2 business days of receiving your photo. The courier then takes 1–3 business days.

Can I upload my photo later?

Yes. Place your order, then email your photo to hello@ru3d.co.za or WhatsApp it to us with your order number. We start printing once we have it.

Can I send it straight to someone as a gift?

Yes – just enter their name and address as the delivery address at checkout.
