Hi, I’m Ruduan, a software engineer, technology enthusiast and 3D printing fanatic.
My professional experience in software engineering has shaped the way I approach RU3D. I enjoy solving problems, developing practical solutions, testing new ideas and continually improving how things work.
I built RU3D from the ground up to turn ideas into real, useful and exciting products through the possibilities of additive manufacturing.
Where It Started
I have always been fascinated by technology. As a child, I would make videos about my gadgets and toys. Not much has changed, except that the equipment is far more advanced and that childhood interest has grown into a business with a much bigger purpose.
My father, a real estate agent and my greatest mentor, shaped the way I think about business, perseverance and finding creative solutions. He also introduced me to Rich Dad Poor Dad, which helped ignite the entrepreneurial drive that eventually led to RU3D.
My First 3D Printer
My journey into 3D printing began in 2018, when I first started experimenting with the technology.
In 2019, I built my first 3D printer from scratch. It was a custom Prusa-style machine that I named the Joubert Prusa.
By 2020, I was ready to take the next step. I passed my first printer down to my younger brothers and invested in a second machine, this time with much bigger plans in mind.
On 1 September 2021, RU3D was officially born.
What Does RU3D Mean?
RU3D is read as:
“Are You 3D?”
It is a question for anyone who is ready to explore the creative and practical possibilities of 3D printing.
There is also a personal connection hidden in the name. RU represents the first two letters of Ruduan.
The Vision for RU3D
My goal is to make 3D printing more accessible to people throughout South Africa.
Through RU3D, I want customers to discover exciting 3D printed gifts, toys, practical products and custom solutions that can make everyday life more interesting and convenient.
I also want to share what I have learned, educate others about the technology and inspire more people to start creating their own ideas.
RU3D is about more than printing objects. It is about turning imagination into something real.
